Task 4: What is the most creative company? Why?

In my opinion one of the most creative companies in the world is Google because it has provided the whole world with seemingly free services e.g. searches, email and so forth which have helped the world to become even more globalisized i.e. smaller with more connections between people all around the world. Google has done it all with the end-user and customer in mind as its completely free and only companies have to pay for advertisement and or when using it to make profit.

Google has also created the Android mobile phone OS, which has become immensely popular and has given many other companies the required kickstart to start producing their own mobile and smart phones. Anything that increases the competition is more than welcome in my opinion!

So Google is in my opinion the most creative company as it is constantly pushing forward the boundaries of internet and communication for the average guy like you and me!

Task 3: Who are the most creative figures? Why?

For me one of the most creative groups of people are writers because they can create entire worlds with only a pen (laptop nowadays I think) and their mind. The best part of the writers and their work is that they can share the results of their creativity with others via different medium like books, newspapers, internet and movies and so forth.

One of the most creative writer I’ve seen in a while is George R.R Martin  (http://georgerrmartin.com/) who is behind the book and tv series of “Song of Fire and Ice” that have been a major success in many ways. He also looks like a really creative person!

Writers entertain, share knowledge, teach and record information for the future generations!

Task 2: Why do we need to be creative?

So a whopping 10 minutes since my last post. Getting really good at this..

On macro level Creativity is needed in this world so that it goes forward, without creativity the world would be stagnant place where status quo would rule. Creativity brings the whole world things like arts and science which (hopefully) makes the world a more beautiful and interesting place to live in. Creativity and innovation in different areas of science improves our quality of life and allows the human race to reach for the stars.

On individual level we need to be creative in our every day life because creativity makes the life more interesting and with creative ideas you can also prosper economically. Trying to think creatively also enhances your brain and keeps it sharp, so therefore trying to be creative and just tossing around crazy ideas is good for you.

In short: without creativity the world would be a sad and boring place to live in 🙂

Task 1: Interpret your name creatively

Hi All,

This is my first blog post ever and I have to thank Creativity and Innovation course for pushing my boundaries forward! My name is Henri Olavi Talvitie and I’m an exchange student from Aalto University in Finland.

My first name is quite common in Europe in its different forms like Henry, Heinrich, Heimrich, Henrik and so forth and to my knowledge it doesn’t really mean anything – its just a name. My second name Olavi on the other hand is an Finnish version of a more common name Olaf (Scandinavia)/ Oliver. Its meaning according to behindthename.com is “ancestor’s descendent”, which is quite interesting because I got the name from my grandfather – coincidence or not?

My surname means in English winter road, which I think is quite fitting for me as I’m quite pale, I come from the north and I like snow.

Because there are lots of German exchange students here in Bandung, I need to adapt and therefore I’ll interpret my name in a form that they can understand more easily. So my creative name in “ze German” is Heinrich von Winterstrasse. I expect that my “Germanization” is complete after the first semester.

Viele Gruesse,

Heinrich
